This activity was created to give your students the opportunity to learn about species at risk while having some fun exploring the web and creating a newsletter. There are a number of ways this task can be completed but we’ll suggest a couple:
Download the appropriate template depending on if you are having the students complete the template on a computer (blank template) or if they are completing a printed version by hand (lined template).
The students download the blank template and open it in Microsoft Word. From here they can paste in pictures and copy/paste text to complete their newsletter. Once completed they can print it out or submit it to you via email for evaluation.
You can print out a lined template that will make it easier for students to complete the template by hand. You can also print out pictures in advance that students can paste into their newsletters.
When each stage of the activity is completed, the students will have to answer a question related to the content they have just researched. Each question must be answered correctly before the students can move on. Note: The test answers are randomized to prevent students from ‘clicking’ their way through the exercise.
As the students complete each stage of this activity they will be given one more piece of a puzzle. When they complete the activity they will have a chance to solve the riddle of the puzzle. If they successfully solve the riddle they will be able to download a stamp they can place in their newsletter to indicate they have completed the task.
